NIYONKUNDA Gamaliel
As an attorney admitted to the Bar of the Court of Appeal of Bujumbura since July 31, 2015, I am the founder and CEO of Liana of Justice law firm. I am a recognized expert in various legal domains, including child protection law in Africa, intellectual property law, sports law, mining law, forensic medicine, justice and forensic sciences, and managing interpersonal violence. My expertise also extends to humanitarian negotiation, project planning and management, as well as arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).
My academic background is enriched by training at prestigious institutions such as the University of Burundi, where I studied law and completed specialized training at the doctoral school in collaboration with the University Hospitals of Geneva (HUG), the Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV), and the Romand Center for Forensic Medicine (CURML). I also gained significant expertise at the Centre of Competence on Humanitarian Negotiation (CCHN) based in Geneva, Africa Future Academy in Benin, and the East Africa Law Society (EALS). My experience further includes training with the Burundi Association of Women Lawyers in collaboration with UNICEF, the African Association of Lawyers for Banks and Financial Institutions (AJBEF), the Professional Training Center for Justice (CFPJ), and the Center for Population and Development Studies (CERPED).
I am honored to have won the Marc Birihanyuma Prize in 2021 for being the top performer in the Bar examination from junior to senior counsel, a recognition awarded in memory of the professional legacy of the late Bar President. I am fluent in French, English, and Kiswahili, and I continue to contribute to the development of law in Africa through the Liana of Justice law firm.
